The 74th Annual Emmy Awards were held on Monday night, and this year’s event marked a major return to normalcy.

After two years of pandemic-adjusted proceedings, television’s biggest stars packed the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles once again to celebrate the show in full force since 2008, to celebrate the shows that made us laugh, Cried or even changed the channel.

Show of the Year was hosted by Saturday Night Live comedian Kenan Thompson and primarily honored returning favorites on a new crop of rookie series.

Succession, HBO’s portrait of a twisted family lineage, and Ted Lasso, Apple TV+’s sports comedy starring Jason Sudeikis, once again topped the drama and comedy categories after leading the pack of this year’s nominees. But it came.

But newcomers including Netflix’s dystopian horror series Squid Game and Abbott Elementary, the rare network sitcom to garner the attention of the awards, still managed to garner significant awards and make Emmy history in the process.

Record-breaking South Korean Squid Game star Lee Jung-jae now stands as the first cast member in a non-English series to win the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series category.

Elsewhere, Jean Smart (Hakes) and Zendaya (Euphoria) both repeated their victories in the Best Actress race.

For a limited or anthology series, White Lotus, the pointed holiday satire from HBO Max creator Mike White, easily dominated with wins for cast members such as Jennifer Coolidge and Murray Bartlett and eventually conquered the competition Outstanding limited series category.

But as in years past, the field was as stacked with major A-list talent as ever, resulting in Amanda Seyfried (“The Dropout”) and Michael Keaton (“Dopesic”) topping the major acting race.
